Diligence in Christian Growth

Spiritual worship requires Christians who are growing in faith. That increase is ultimately supplied by God through the Holy Spirit as we fix our eyes on Jesus through prayer and the Word. However, as 2 Peter 1:1-11 instructs us, we are to "be all the more diligent" and "make every effort" in the process of sanctification and growth. This two-part series will examine the basis for our hope of Christian growth, the requirements for Christian growth, and the results of Christian maturity.

The basis of our hope that we will grow to maturity is the precious faith that we have received by Christ's righteousness, Christ's divine power working in us to accomplish His will, the glory and excellence of Christ as discerned through the Word and prayer by which we become partakers of the divine nature.

When we attend to our growth in Christlikeness with diligence, we are kept from stumbling in the assurance that "His divine power has granted to us everything that pertains to life and godliness" and that the "precious and very great promises" are made to us. Just as the development of Christian character is the fruit of faith, so the assurance of salvation is the fruit of Christlikeness.
